Ashiatsu Massage

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® (AOBT), a deep tissue massage technique can produce amazing results.  Ashiatsu, (ashi=foot, atsu=pressure) is a well documented, effective technique approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and recognized by the American Medical Association. Ashiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork that started with Buddhist Monks, first from China and then from Thailand and Japan. Although the roots of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy are Asian, the technique and application are truly western.

This unique deep pressure work is performed with soothing strokes that are applied to all areas of the back using hand and foot pressure to milk the muscles, open chakras and release toxins.   Ashiatsu is gauranteed to induce deep relaxation, relieve tight muscles and to stimulate the body's own self healing capabilities. The American Massage Therapy Association noted that 47% of the people polled in a consumer survey used massage therapy to relieve and manage their pain, and 91% said massage therapy was effective in reducing pain.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is performed on a massage table. During treatment, the therapist is supported by parallel wooden bars suspended from the ceiling. The Massage Therapist applies deep foot pressure to strategic points along the spine and body to achieve maximum muscle compression. Ashiatsu's one and two-footed strokes distribute pressure evenly over a large area of the body, thereby providing deep, relaxing massage without the pain often associated with traditional deep tissue massage.

What are the Benefits? Using a protocol of strokes that are gliding with the pressure of the feet, a "push, pull, pumping" effect is created on the intervertebral disc space. This deep compression on the soft tissue around the joints allows the nucleus pulposus (the gel that gives discs their support) to assume its central position with in the annular fibers and relieve irritations on the spinal nerve caused by inflammation and swelling. Mobilization above and below the joints naturally takes place due to the deep compression to surrounding muscles.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® decreases inflammation, increases lymphatic flow, and stimulates the body's own self healing capabilities. Following treatment, clients experience deep relaxation, pain relief, improved posture, and enhanced physical structure and balance. Ashiatsu is highly effective for large athletes, individuals with thick musculature, and people who enjoy deep tissue massage. It is also recommended for individuals who suffer from chronic neck and back pain, scoliosis, bulging/herniated discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, and spondylosis. More here on Ashiatsu.
